“AVCLP is a great example of the community leadership program concept – engaging established and emerging talent to tackle regional challenges by stepping forward to get more involved – leadership-in-action!”

AVCLP is an active and dynamic participant in the national network of community leadership programs (Community Leadership Australia)”

Richard Bluck, Executive Director, Leadership Victoria

AVCLP has helped greatly lift horizons and boost community capability and cohesion by imparting knowledge and leadership skills over recent years. In every sense it is a powerful sequel to an outstanding hydro engineer who built Australia's first ever hydro scheme at the top of the Kiewa Valley, his name John Monash, his motto: "Depend upon it, Australia's best hope is with the ballot box and an educated electorate!"

So with the AVCLP, there is a renewal of the spirit of John Monash, who went to school nearby at Jerilderie and loved climbing Mt Buffalo, he spent his last weekend there before embarking for Gallipoli. With all the static and acid of living in the 21st Century we need the AVCLP to cut through, in the same way John Monash cut through, about 100 years ago.

The Hon. Tim Fischer AC

“Our staff that have participated in the AVCLP have found the sessions very interesting and enjoyable. It has also given them the opportunity to develop knowledge of leadership from both theoretical and practical viewpoints, as well as meeting an interesting group of people from various work environments that will enable them to maintain good communication contacts from a number of industries.

The idea of working as groups, role plays and the team bonding has also been a highlight of the course, according to the participants from Northeast Health Wangaratta. The networking with other participants has been great and NHW staff have gained a lot more confidence and practice in making presentations in front of a group..

NHW has been a long time supporter of AVCLP. It is one of the key options we have for staff development. We look forward to continuing the association.

Peter McGregor, Chief Executive Officer, Northeast Health Wangaratta

“The Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program is a key development program for community leaders. The North East CMA is a proud supporter of this program which demonstrates that things can be done if community people are empowered and equipped with the skills to think about, and bring about, positive change for the benefit of the broader community.”

John Riddiford, Chief Executive Officer, North East Catchment Management Authority

“The Alpine Valley Leaders program offers a chance for people to develop valuable skills that they can apply in their work in the community. I have been involved in the program over the last few years and I have been amazed at the enthusiasm, energy and friendliness of the participants. I would encourage anybody who is involved in community activities to consider taking part in the program.”

Dr Darren Baldwin, Deputy-Director, Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre

As both an employer and a strong supporter of community development, I regard the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program an outstanding contributor to the personal and professional development of individuals and of significant benefit to the development of North East Victorian communities. Several Centre staff have participated and have acknowledged that the program is one of the best things they have done in their life. I urge individuals to join, and employers to support their staff, through the 12 month program.

Danny O'Donoghue, Chief Executive Officer, The Centre for Continuing Education Inc.

'North East Water has been a keen supporter of the leadership program since its inception. The positive feedback we have received from our senior executives who have participated in the program is a testament to the benefits and experiences gained. Consequently anyone considering participating should do so, as it is a “not to be missed” experience that you will draw upon in future years.'

Jim Martin, Chief Executive, North East Water
